Skiing on McKenzie Island

We could not have asked for a more beautiful day!
On March 9th, Miss Battiston and Mr. Reid brought the Grade 5s and 8s to ski on McKenzie Island’s gorgeous ski trials as a wrap up activity to their skiing units in their Physical Education classes. Skiing is a great way to get outside and stay active in those long winter months. It is an activity that can be enjoyed by people of any age and is a way that the school can promote skills for life-long healthy living.
We had a wonderful time outside and finished off our day with hot chocolate and roasted hot dogs by the fire. Although the winter is almost over, we are counting down the days until the trails are ready to go again next year. To see photos from this event, see GLC website page.

A Night at the Manitoba Museum

On Friday, February 24th, the Grade 5’s headed off to Winnipeg for the Festival du Voyageur accompanied by Ms. Battiston, Ms. Skedgel, Mr. Parrish and Mr. Morin. We arrived in Winnipeg promptly at 4:00 and headed straight for dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory. Here the group munched on salad, bread and a heaping bowl of spaghetti, which was also followed by ice cream for dessert. We then were on our way to the Museum!

Arriving at the museum, students were given free time in the huge science gallery. There we spent over an hour exploring and playing with different science exhibits. The gallery was all hands-on where students were able to feel what it would be like to float in space, conduct investigations, lift their weight by pulley’s and walk in a room of floor to floor mirrors. Around 7, we began our tour of the museum galleries. We experienced life in the 20s [Read more...]

Ipod Shuffle Won by Brooklyn T!

As part of our efforts to take our new school website to the student community, we recently conducted a GLC Website Scavenger Hunt. Students and teachers collaborated to work through a gameboard that challenged the students to navigate through the website. Students were able to check out a recent blog post, the KPDSB calendar, and a photo gallery. As well, many teachers gave students time to ‘just look around’. It has been very exciting to see the new website being created and built up; and we especially enjoyed seeing the students’ excitement at seeing themselves and their friends online! Please think about adding our website to your favorites (or to your homepage!) and sitting down often with your child to talk about school events.
